I toyed with Cornelia but didn't care for the Corney nn. I think its beautiful but I agree with some posters that the "cord" root is a little unpleasant (obviously it makes up for pleasantries in the "elia" ending). One of the few names in the world that do not have any negative connotation to it.

I don't find it elegant AT ALL.I have a friend named Cordelia who goes by Cordy, which has a charmingly tomboyish quality.I just cant get the girl from Buffy out of my head.Lovely sound, but also has a melodramatic, wannabe-a-romance-novel-heroine quality. My opinion of this name was definitely boosted by Cordelia Chase on Buffy the vampire slayer (one of my favourite shows). :(I used to not be able to stand this name when I was younger, but now it's really growing on me. Another bonus is that it is not over-used as other classic names nowadays like Anna, Sophia, Emma... A truely smart choice, mi corazon.I love this name, it is my absolute favourite. Anne of Green Gables is a personal love of mine. Also a queen in Celtic Mythology. My single favorite name, easily. Reminds me of cord, which reminds me of death... also, in Portuguese Cordeiro is sheep so a definite no-no.

I think my grandmother said I went to visit her friend with her and the lady lived on Cordelia Drive. And you kind of have to put this on your list in this case. Suggestions? It was also about the ONLY name my husband didn't veto.

Cordelia is a rare baby name for girls. But Coco, Cori, CeeCee are also cute.Anyone thought of Codi as a nickname? Plus, I love the nickname Cordy. I just wish my wife liked it!This is definitely among my top five all-time favorite girls' names, and I'd love to be able to use it on a future daughter someday.

The baby name has since fallen from favor, and is currently of very modest use. Sounds clunky, especially the 'cor' soundI don't like this name, it sounds snobby and posh. Cordelia is a long, beautiful name, but can also be shortened to many lovely different nicknames that one can adopt to suit to their personality- though Cora and Delia are my favorites! It's pretty, and Corli - the Afrikaans diminutive of Cornelia - would make a good nn.I really don't like this name. Buffy/Angel references aren't a concern because we are big Joss Whedon fans. This syllable is still used in many modern languages today. I have a friend who was named Cordelia and went by Delia and just legally changed it to Delia because she hated being called CordeliaCordelia is atrocious! The English cordial as a noun means "a heart and body strenghtening tonic". Not as recognizable as a song as Rhiannon or Layla. At first I didn't like this name, but it's growing on me. The adjective means friendly, warmhearted and even gracious. Just makes me think of cordial (drink). I'm loving it.One of my favourite Tragically Hip songs. In English Baby Names the meaning of the name Cordelia is: In Shakespeare's King Lear a woman of rare honesty. I prefer the suggested Cody nn having a cowboy unisex vibe which is a popular trend. If you're torn between Cordelia and the equally lovely Cora, you can always choose Cordelia for long and then call her Cora for short—or Delia, Lia, Del, or even the extremely different Cordie. The name Cordelia is a girl's name of Latin, Celtic origin meaning "heart; daughter of the sea".

Anyway, I will definitely consider using this name in the future :)I adore Cordelia completely:) It has three meanings: Star of the sea (Celtic), Warm hearted (Latin), and of the Lion's heart (French). It's so lovely.I think this name is gorgeous and not fussy at all, especially with the nicknamesThis is pretty, but it's a bit much, isn't it? My husband likes the nn "Cordy" while I prefer the more uncommon "Cori/Cory". I do really like Cordelie, though.I named my daughter Cordelia. The nickname possibilities are endless! It is named for William Shakespeare's character, Cordelia. The character wasn't particularly pleasant until the third season so the namesake isn't brilliant but she was very beautiful & so was her name!
