The run down 50's children's hospital and the backstory that is the origin of the horror are great, they just didn't capitalize on either. I FIND THAT WHEN I GET COPIES THAT COME FROM GERMANY, THEY ARE VERY GOOD COPIES, SO I TELL YOU IF YOU SEE DVD'S WITH THE GERMAN RATING ON THE BOTTOM LEFT SIDE BUY IT. The characters serve the plot instead of vice versa. Amy takes a particular shine to a young girl called Maggie who claims to have seen, Charlotte, the ghostly "Mechanical Girl". But if you want a chiller, this is it. Amy soon bonds with a young orphan girl Maggie, who informs her new carer that a 'mechanical girl' called Charlotte is visiting the ward at night. Amy bravely investigates even though the rest of the staff dismiss her theories of ghosts and evil. The evil entity was perfectly creepy, when we finally got to see her.
Actor Richard Roxburgh goes against playing a psychotic character for once, portraying the night physician, Dr. Richard Carey, one of the hospital staff members sympathetic to the plight of the kids, and slowly delving into the location’s past for the identity of the spirit.
