It is unbelievable how much trash that people throw into the river.Low water on the Watauga has been on fire!

Remember, to check the Watauga river, you have to check March has been good to us so far. Don’t forget streamers and beetles on both high and low water!!! A lot of grass beds are no longer under water during non-generation. We had low water in the morning, about a 2 hour pulse mid morning, falling water around lunch, and a high water flow of 1700cfs in the afternoon.

Size 16 stripper baetis with a long drag free drift and getting your flies down deep were key. But, that can change at any time! We’ve had temperatures in the mid 60s.

They were not disappointed. Size 18 pheasant tails, size 20 zebra midges, size 16 stripper baetis and attractor patters pink san juan worms, and egg patterns. Charlie’s clients have been having the time of their lives! Size 18 puff daddy’s and cdc sparkle duns are working great.Still experiencing high water on both the South Holston an Watauga rivers. Split case nymphs, zebra midges, some nasty stuff like worm patterns. The good news is, that the fish are chewing on both the South Holston and Watauga rivers! We have been seeing an afternoon blue winged olive hatch. The TVA is flowing 1900cfs on the South Holston river and it is great. We’ve landed lots of nice fish and lost even more.

They are eating a variety of nymphs and midges.
Nymphing can be much more than starring at an indicator. They ate bwo cdc sparkle duns in an 18 and size 20 and 22 morgan’s midges very well. Boone Lake has been long overlooked as a fly fishery.

On the weekends, the TVA sluices approximately 350cfs making wade fishing phenomenal.The Watauga river is fishing good as well. I will leave you with a few photo’s of last weeks guide trips.The South Holston river is slucing 1100cfs and the fishing is outstanding!

Yes, we do. We have had some pretty significant rain falls here in northeast TN. The best of the day trip is a 5-6 hour trip including a lite lunch for $375 dollars. Give us a call to book your next trip. The cold, deep waters of the South Holston Lake keep water at a constant enough temperature to insure good fishing conditions year round. So we will be able to start floating high water soon.Charlie is still hammering away at the hybrids on Boone lake.The short of it is; fishing is good here in northeast Tennessee. Most places only have sulfurs for a couple of weeks; we get them for six months. Saturday, they weren’t too selective. Size 16 stripper baetis, 18 flash back pheasant tails, and a variety of zebra midges.Boone lake is still producing huge stripers, hybrids, and brown trout.

The South Holston is low in the morning, pulsing mid-day, and running in the evening. You had to get a long drag free drift and mend well ahead of your targeted fish. Scuds 14s & 16s, blue wing nymphs 18s & 20s, olive zebra midges 20s, and of course egg patterns have been producing well on the South Holston. There hasn’t been a single stocked brown trout here in over 25 years, and they make up 80 percent of the overall trout population.
