Published Why read a book when you can watch a book die?! Tom Sawyer gets slashed in TWAIN! Wherein our metatextual hero gets all metatextual on the classics. The book is about how Deadpool becomes self aware that he is a comic book and wants to end it by trying to kill the writers, knowing he can't possibly do that since they'll just write him into defeat, he has to go into the different worlds to kill the classic characters like Moby Dick and Tom Sawyer in order to kill the inspirations and origins for the heroes within his own universe.
I love Deadpool and thought this was amazing, it's funny, action packed, references per usual, and overall a Deadpool comic. He isnt through. His noir/horror comic (and first collaboration with Brian Hurtt), The Damned, was published in 2007 by Oni Press. The character goes out of character to seek the characters to kill - his purpose is more clearly stated: he wants to kill fantasy - he wants to kill all the stories, and then the creators of the stories. Deadpool turns his attention to famous literary characters in an attempt to wipe out all fictional characters - including himself! The action, violence, humor, and wit are well balanced in this comic. Disappointed. The covers actually do a pretty good job of showing how this book is meant to be taken, and it's really just another example of why Deadpool is so much fun.
