A unique illustrated memoir by Sally Wade, the love of George Carlin’s life for ten years, THE GEORGE CARLIN LETTERS: THE PERMANENT COURTSHIP OF SALLY WADE is a collection of never-before-seen writings and artwork by the late great comedian (representing at least 1/3 of the text in the book), woven into Wade’s beautifully told chronicle of the last ten years of their life
The format is similar to a scrapbook~each page contains copies of notes written on Post-it's, scraps of hotel stationary, postcards, etc. Kudos to Spot.A terrific tribute to one of the best comedians of all time. The day they meet again in Jupiter will be a joyous one indeed, I wish I could see it!

Very touching. Now I'm even more mad at myself for not going to see him live prior to his death.
Not terrible. This book is highly recommended for Carlin fans...and if you aren't a Carlin fan, you should be! Familiar only with a very small amount of his standup - and most of that pretty rough, I was pleasantly surprised to discover what a thoughtful and loving man he was.Enjoyed this and loved that the dog got involved in the book as well.
Just a moment while we sign you in to your Goodreads account. Who knew what a darling man George Carlin was? He was a great man and a great comic> For a tear-jeri biography that will have you saying "Awwwww" a lot, you need to read this hook.Maybe I'm not enlightened enough or whatever to enjoy this book. When I flipped it open and read one of his many love notes to the woman he loved for 10 years after his wife of 31 years passed way, I had to check it out. I pretty much bawled throughout the entirety!Cute book...never realized what a hopeless romantic Carlin was. She is currently writing for herself. This is the most amazing real life love story from a very unlikely source. It's definitely worth a read.Oh my God...... this book was so beautifully touching !!!! The year I decided to splurge on myself and get myself tickets for my biThis book was just amazing. The romance of George Carlin and Sally Wade is laid bare through a collection of love notes, to do lists, and sketches.
Sad that he's no longer in this life. Not I. Through primarily post-it notes, doodles and postcards, the very close, passionate relationship of George Carlin and Sally Wade is documented.
It's hilarious.
Kelly Carlin was born in Ohio in 1963.
Now I'm even more mad at myself for not going to see him live prior to his death.
Loved it.
Welcome back. Not your typical read but definite and up close and personal look at two people and the love they share(d).Worth reading for the Carlin completist, but it did make me feel like a bit of a voyeur.

I was so sad.

I've always loved George Carlin and to see this side of him was fantastic. The year I decided to splurge on myself and get myself tickets for my birthday (which is in May, a week after George's, (go Taurus!! It just wasn't what I was expecting, is all. But it also feels TOO personal, like you're not supposed to be reading all of their inside jokes and things.
Let us know what’s wrong with this preview of However, I'm not sure it is up for readers to judge Sally Wade for her decision to write/put together this book, because she got full support from Kelly Carlin and his agent and I'm sure Ms. Wade knew George well enough to be able to determine how he would have felt about a project like this.Worth reading for the Carlin completist, but it did make me feel like a bit of a voyeur.
Don't get me wrong, I'm totally OK with that.
Don't get me wrong, I'm totally OK with that. Enviable love.
We've got you covered with the buzziest new releases of the day. Who knew what a darling man George Carlin was? !Sweet and spicey at the same time. In fact, it's a neat little glimpse into the love life of some funny people. This is not only a delightful romp through the eyes of love with a brilliant satirist but it is a hopeful triumph to the wonderful playful and intelligent joy love ought to be. If you were a huge fan then you might like seeing a somewhat curmudgeonly, crusty entertainer being a cream-puff in his romantic life. If you love George Carlin....if you love romance.....it you love a memoir....this is the book for you. Much like George Carlin himself, this collection of notes that the late comedian left for his wife is at times raunchy, profane...and yet unexpectedly sweet and romantic. Thank you Sally Wade for showing us the personal life of a comic genius.Interesting concept for a book. She is currently writing for herself. It seems unlikely that a man who appeared dedicated to hilariously offending people would be just as dedicated to letting his wife know how much she was loved; that the man who made a career on the Seven Words and his contempt for euphemisms would embrace silly nicknames like "Baby Cupcakes" or "Grumpy Pants." March 8th 2011 Thank you Sally Wade for showing us the personal life of a comic genius.3.75 Stars. www.latimes.com/local/obituaries/la-me-carlin23-2008jun23-story.html I diligently read every note, caption, etc for the first few chapters but I'll probably just flip through the rest. This is not the type of thing that I would usually pick up. This is not for George Carlin's fans only, it can be pretty universal. I'm not giving it any stars for that reason.
Wonderful!Who knew he was so sweet.
2C. We’d love your help.
You do "get" that George Carlin was a true romantic at heart, and that he loved her very dearly.
It's deeply personal and the puppy-dog love gets very sappy (and a bit tedious) after a while. It just wasn't what I was expecting, is all. I really liked seeing this different side of the famous comedian. This book was adorable. It seems unlikely that a man who appeared dedicated to hilariously offending people would be just as dedicated to letting his wife know how much she was loved; that the man who made a career on the Seven Words and his contempt for euphemisms would embrace silly nicknames like "Baby Cupcakes" or "Grumpy Pants." It's hopeful. I've always loved George Carlin and to see this side of him was fantastic.
i skipped the parts where she talked about the dog, which got a bit tedious for me.
