Villmark Asylum. Complete, utter lack of context or reasoning on why anything is happening (spoiler: the hazmat crew become separated and killed off). Horror movies lately have been severely lacking in the suspense department. It takes weeks. Halfway through it, the director decides "f*ck it" and throws every cliche, from a nasty nurse to animal torture, etc... which, at its core, illustrates a contempt for those of us that did watch this film.

Just with weird Karl, the movie had some great bones to build on and well, instead the audience had to try to unpack all the basic horror tropes that led to a nonsensical ending. Very reminiscent of Session 9 (2001) and definitely an homage, Villmark 2 is very slow in its build up of tension. “At least” audiences are treated to a professional troupe of experienced performers putting personality onto the screen instead of an amateur assembly of friends and family fumbling around for the first time.Stylish presentation earns a great deal of goodwill, but poor pacing eventually overpowers engaging imagery. In other words, familiarity with “Villmark” earns you an Easter egg or two, but “Villmark Asylum” functions fine as a standalone story.It functions less fine as an original story, however. Shot twelve years after the first film, this time a crew of workers are tasked with identifying toxic materials in an ancient asylum. I'm so confused... Personally, they don't bother me, and I feel like a lot of people miss out on good entertaining movies because they are so dead set against subtitles.
