Ahead is the final push to the summit of Great Gable, this rocky face appears somewhat intimidating, however you can pick a scramble to suit your capabilities – no worries. Great Gable from Wasdale Head Green at the the start of the walk: Leave Wasdale Head Green by the lane which leads to Burnthwaite Farm, passing Lingmell House and St. Olaf's Church on the way: St. Olaf's Church: Burnthwaite Farm, pass to the left of the barn and … The path not always obvious though the direction of travel should be. Unfortunately the time spent on the summit was largely in cloud so we didn't get to enjoy the terrific views. Overall an enjoyable 5 hrs though your body will know it has had a good workout. The most common walk to Great Gable from Borrowdale is up past Taylor Gill Force and Sty Head. The Great Napes (aka The Napes) crag is home to the much photographed Napes Needle, an awe-inspiring rock pinnacle which holds mythical status amongst rock climbers and is regarded as the birthplace of British rock climbing – see The walk is now straight forward really, following Styhead Gill down the valley back towards Seathwaite farm.
This Great Gable walk is a classic encompassing hands on scrambling, wild mountain scenery and breathtaking summit vistas.
You are now high above Wasdale Head and will no doubt be aware of the exposure and somewhat tricky terrain underfoot! It is a superb route but relatively easy and because of its ease is best reserved for descent.

Delamere Forest is home to an extensive network of trails perfect for mountain biking.
